having fun is cool: in the collapse
how to have fun at the end
Am I being dramatic? maybe! But who would I be if I weren’t? And while I’m currently bathed in the blessings of a home, a partner, a very special cat on my lap, a job, and school (which is also cool), I can’t help but have my eyes that see wide open to the state of ~ everything ~ but dear reader, I’m sure you have not come here for a thorough and detailed review of the ails of the collapse of the empire, so I will not provide one. Instead, I will once again tell you how I’m keeping my head up!
Find a therapist - find help when you need it (if you can find it, if you can afford it, if you can make it so etc.) This is very classic advice for a reason.

Up your dose - if you’re finding the wellbutrin just isn’t hitting the way it once was, get more. It may briefly feel like your brain is a bright white little white box with a bouncy ball hitting the walls and corners like the DVD logo scooting around the screen, but eventually the ball will lose momentum and stop (that’s physics!), and you will be left with just the bright white room.

Get away - doesn’t have to be for long, doesn’t have to be far, but remove yourself from your surroundings for hours, days if you can. Do a hard reset. Eat one delicious meal. Hike up a mountain.

Swim every swim - if you’ve been waiting two years for the pool next to your home to open and it finally does, visit that pool every day you can, even for 20 minutes. Text your neighbors to join you for a dip. Everyone should lay in the water. This also applies to a trip to Puerto Rico (see below) and a separate trip to Rhode Island (also below).

Find a new (old) book - pick up the book you started in December of 2022 and give it another shot! Eve’s Hollywood by Eve Babitz was WAITING for me to crack her back open. Since I have picked it back up, I have also started reading Good Girl by Aria Aber (which I’m thrilled with), and I look forward to hopefully finishing one of these two books in the next month. Ask your trusted friends and confidants for recommendations.

Watch a movie - A Room with a View made me laugh so much (was it supposed to?) If it wasn’t supposed to, no worries, the laughter still felt great.

Go to the derm - I have gotten my hands on tazarotene because the tretinoin was not cutting it! I’m new now (it’s important I claim this quarterly in every newsletter). Additionally, I have received a prescription anti-perspirant that makes it so I don’t sweat, and now I can wear color again. Imagine!

Learn something - in my first real term in graduate school, I learned about public policy. Ask me about the state of abortion policy in Pennsylvania, or about the insane wellness court in Philadelphia, or the state of measles vaccines in this country, I dare you!

See a pal, no, see many pals - every chance you get!

Thank you for indulging me in getting film developed. Much love to you in your collapse <3
xoxo
